NEW YORK (July 17th, 2020) - WGI today announces a series of corporate developments that will transform its long-term strategy and ability to deliver positive impact across the world.

Building on the foundation of its existing global literacy and education programmes, for the last year, WGI has been working with partners to develop a digital learning platform that can teach people how to read and write solely on a mobile device. This new platform will transform how people learn around the world, breaking down barriers in education and bringing literacy to those who are most in need.

To support development and roll out of the soon-to-launch platform, WGI is updating its corporate structure to ensure its sustainability and ability to compete, by splitting its operations into two distinct but mutually-supportive entities: The WGI Worldwide Company and The WGI Worldwide Foundation.

WGI will continue its philanthropy as The WGI Worldwide Foundation. This Foundation will maintain the volunteerism that WGI has built over the last six years. It will also oversee the donation and distribution of WGI’s new learning platform to the underprivileged and those organisations around the world who support them. As the Foundation grows it will take on other activities under its education mission.

WGI will also create a commercial operation called The WGI Worldwide Company. This Company will be responsible for all business and investment activity related to WGI’s learning platform and any future commercial endeavors that may advance the organisation’s ability to realise its established goal to eradicate illiteracy around the globe.

Chance Wilson, WGI Chairman, CEO and Founder said: “I am proud to announce this exciting next step in WGI’s evolution. The future is digital and harnessing this reality to educate people across the globe is our new mandate. Long term inequalities in education, further exposed by COVID-19, underscore the need to deploy educational tools in a lean and expedient way. WGI will be at the forefront of this. We’re delighted to be working with a globally-recognised partner to realise this ambition and I’m excited that we will be able to reveal more details very soon.”

The WGI Worldwide Company will be based in New York City and lead by Wilson as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. He has formed an executive leadership team of seasoned business leaders to drive forward this new commercial vision in line with WGI’s long-held mission to bring literacy to the world. The WGI Worldwide Foundation will be based in Washington, DC and chaired by Wilson.

“I’d like to thank all the amazing people who’ve been a part of WGI these last six years. Together we have the potential to impact millions of people around the world. I look forward to realizing this with you all,” added Wilson.

In the coming weeks an announcement will be made with specifics on WGI’s new learning platform and its development partner.
