Baton Rouge, a quaint Southern town in the heart of Louisiana, is the birthplace and world headquarters of WGI.
WGI was founded in Baton Rouge back in April 2014. At the time, our founder Chance Wilson identified illiteracy as a serious global issue worth tackling. Our initial efforts in Baton Rouge would serve as the springboard for a now worldwide movement.
WGI's work in Baton Rouge has spanned a number of different projects, all aimed at supporting our core mission. WGI has held book drives benefitting students, put new technology in classrooms in local schools, ran after school programs, etc.
Currently, WGI is running our You Can Read campaign locally. We are working with a number of partners, including Albemarle and Coca-Cola, to get volunteers reading with students in local students.
Unlike our affiliates around the world, there is no local leadership for WGI in Baton Rouge due to its status as world headquarters.
