Our Story
In 2014, a 14 year old from Baton Rouge, Louisiana named Chance Wilson noticed something odd: his peers in school couldn’t read or write. Little did he know this realization would spark a global movement.
Together with some of the world's most iconic companies, and most respected organizations, WGI has spread the gift of literacy to communities all over.
From our founding in 2014 to today WGI has spent a decade working diligently to fight illiteracy.
Our pre-COVID literacy classes were held on the ground in North America, Africa and Asia. The launch of our Lyra app bolstered our reach further.
Between our in person and virtual work we have reached tens of thousands of people with the skills needed to read and write.
Teaching a billion children to read is no easy feat. So we are launching an exciting new learning app with a few friends from outer space leading the way.
